This masterful sculpture captures four cowboys riding their galloping horses, “shooting pistols and shouting,” as Frederic Remington described, evoking the daring spirit of frontier life. However, a closer look at the riders reveals they are not in pursuit of foes, but rather caught up in a wild drunken celebration. Remington noted of the cowboy: “When he ‘turns loose’ in town, he does so wholeheartedly. His exuberance bursts forth in shrieks and yells, the crack of revolvers, and a frenzied gallop.” A bronze sculpture Coming Through The Rye by Frederic Remington (A nice restrike)
