White Water a canoe of birch bark sculpted in bronze by Ed Swena
The birch bark canoe was the most beautiful and the simplest of all vehicles. The canoes were so strong and flexible the Indians used them in heavy rapids but also on the ocean. The canoes were simple, but the structure was not. A short, low ended canoe was the easiest for portage. A curved rocker bottom could turn with quick response in white water and a narrow beam moved faster than any other and was, therefore, the choice for war.
