$19,000.00

The Riace Bronzes, also known as the Riace Warriors, are a pair of ancient Greek bronze statues that were discovered in the Ionian Sea near Riace Marina, Italy, in 1972. They are believed to have been created in the mid-5th century BCE and are considered masterpieces of Classical Greek sculpture. The statues are slightly larger than life-size and depict two nude male figures, one older and one younger, both representing warriors.

The discovery of the Riace Bronzes was a significant archaeological find, as it provided valuable insights into the art and craftsmanship of ancient Greece. The statues were found by Stefano Mariottini, a diver, and were in remarkably good condition despite spending centuries underwater. The bronzes were restored and are now displayed in the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria in southern Italy.

The older warrior is often referred to as Riace A, while the younger one is called Riace B. Both statues exhibit a high level of skill and attention to detail in their craftsmanship. The anatomical accuracy, dynamic poses, and lifelike expressions contribute to their status as iconic representations of Greek art from the Classical period. The statues’ display in an environmentally-controlled room helps protect them from corrosion and preserves these remarkable artifacts for future generations to appreciate.
