This is one of R. Rousu’s best wildlife depictions of Elk done in bronze and mounted on an oak base and dated 1983. It has “Wyoming Wapiti” (Shoshoni for “Elk” or “White Butt” according to local lore), inscribed into the bronze, as well as the WB symbol on a Steamboat-like bucking horse that R. Rousu started embedding as an identifier on his sculptures in his later works of fine art. This Wapiti elk is stately and majestic. You can see its alertness in his expression, watching for danger, or perhaps sensing a female nearby!
