Around 2015, my mother inherited a bronze sculpture called Crow Matriarch.
“Crow Matriarch” was bought by my grandmother at a gallery in Vail Colorado in 1983. Shortly after buying the piece, she corresponded with the artist, who told her: “ ‘Crow Matriarch’ is a study of an old woman that I met in Montana at the Crow Fair. She had a terrific face and the style with the scarf around her head is typical. Her actual name was Mrs. Real Bird, a very distinguished Crow family.”
In addition to the sculpture itself I also have the original invoice (it sold for $1,800 in 1983), a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, a letter from the artist to my parents stating that this casting is #8 out of 10, and an article from the Rocky Mountain News profiling the artist. I have attached these documents as well as two photos of the sculpture.
