About Nikolas
Nikolas (b. 1961, Athens, GR) lives and works in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Endowed with a restless spirit and an inquisitive mind, from a young age he was passionate about art and its many forms, such as painting or even fashion design. Sculpture is his latest endeavor, working with the medium since 2018. His greatest motivation is the creative process itself. His love for the practical aspect of sculpture is evident in his work in the way he experiments with hard and soft materials, searching for new ways to combine them while wrestling with the laws of physics. Artistically, he finds his inspiration in the past and at the same time creates a vision for the future. Like many before him, such as Alberto Giacometti or Paul Gaugin, he is fascinated by the minimal aesthetic of the so-called ‘’primitive civilizations’’. Turning mainly to Greek prehistory he is intrigued by the purity of form in the Protocycladic figurines and the dynamic movement of Minoan sculpture modernizing ancient concepts. This series of artworks is all about relating: relating to oneself, relating to the world, and, finally relating with the cosmos. His themes initially revolve around the universal subjects of the human condition such as love in “Aesthisis” or the quest for spiritual enlightenment in “Spirituality”. Then, he moves forward to works like “Homo Deus” and “Exoplanets” where technological progress and the interaction with other species are explored. In Nikolas’s work, the artist’s distinct voice is infused with the love for the medium. His work speaks of our contemporary world and the one to come without forgetting that of the past.
