About Nano Lopez

Nano Lopez’s animal sculptures are a compelling fusion of emotion and artistry, pushing the boundaries of conventional thought. His avant-garde works reflect his classical training, yet they boldly explore the use of diverse materials and intricate surface textures. Each sculpture makes a powerful statement, blending sculpted details, stampings, and unique patina finishes to evoke a spirit that is both whimsical and enigmatic.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1955, Nano began his artistic journey in 1978 when he moved to Spain to work with the renowned sculptor Francisco Baron. There, he mastered the art of carving marble and granite and fabricating steel on a monumental scale. It was in Madrid that Nano cast his first bronze sculptures and held his inaugural solo exhibition. After two years, he continued his studies and exhibitions in France. In 1981, Nano returned to Bogotá to establish his studio and implement the techniques he had acquired in Europe. By 1983, he settled on the Pacific Northwest coast of the United States, where he further honed his skills in welding, tooling, and applying patinas.

Nano’s creative process seamlessly weaves together organic textures and industrial elements, producing bronze sculptures that capture the depth and complexity of the world around him. His signature works reveal a profound respect for life; whether depicting a playful goat perched on a pile of discarded tires or other surprising scenes, each piece transcends the ordinary, transforming everyday moments into extraordinary art.
