Bill Jamison was a professional artist for over 50 years, specializing in sculpture and painting. Over the years he had studios in Dallas TX, Aspen CO, Pietrasanta, Italy, and California, where the creation of art he produced in both stone and bronzenot to mention paintings in various media.
Bill Jamison was born in Texas, raised in the oil fields, where his father worked. He attended Texas Christian University, studying journalism and art. From his studio in Dallas he became a prominent artist of his time there. Moving on he settled in Aspen where he lived and worked for close to 20 years. He was the moving force behind the Aspen public art program. Bill loved Aspen and his studio at “The Barn” where a group of unique individuals carved out a special life semi-hidden on the slope of Aspen Mountain.
Bill Jamison’s sculpture in bronze, granite, quartzite and marble can be seen in public places in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, California and Cedaredge. His work is in many private collections including The Tandy Collection, Ft. Worth, Texas; and many other prominent people and organizations. A great many of his works are with collectors in Aspen and Texas.
His adroit humor and wit was expressed in his works as well as everyday life, his serious belief about the role of the artist in life and he was ready to play the part. He brought gusto to artistic expression. He wanted to be flamboyant, outgoing and fun, he was that and more!
Bill Jamison died at Horizons Health Care Center on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 in Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Lucia; daughter, Staci Jamison; son Kelly Jamison; and stepson Nils Heyerdahl.
